How the Podcast Began
1 RV, 54 Weeks, 22,000 Miles…
The Everyday Innovator™ Podcast started in a very unique way – an epic roadtrip! I took my wife, two kids, and all the things we could stuff into a 280 sq ft 36′ motorhome, and traveled the US for an entire year. 22,000 miles later we had built some great experiences together and I had interviewed several people who were product developers, managers, innovators, and business leaders. If you want to know more about that adventure, take a look at these posts and learn how it all started.
When I returned home, it wasn’t long until I started missing the discussions I had while on the road. I turned my attention to podcasting, took a great class on interviewing from Andrew Warner (founder of Mixergy), and started weekly episodes featuring interviews with knowledgeable guests.
BTW…
The #1 question we were asked while traveling and even today when talking about the trip is…
What was your favorite place you visited?
Well, there were many. We didn’t go a place we didn’t enjoy. Just a few… Myrtle Beach, SC; the Great Smoky Mountains (Tennessee); Crested Butte, CO; Grand Tetons (Wyoming); San Francisco, CA; Victoria, BC; …
But, that’s not how I answer the question. My answer to the favorite place question? That’s easy…
My favorite place was always where we were going next.
My joy was in the journey.
“Everyday Innovators” are on a journey. They want to solve customers’ problems, make things people value, and work with incredible people who enjoy doing the same thing. As Everyday Innovators, we see problems not as challenges but as opportunities for creating new value.
Anyone can be an Everyday Innovator, but some of us are naturally wired this way — seeing opportunities for innovation everyday.
Enjoy the journey and keep innovating!
